First download the appropriate binary for your system. Note that updated binaries are not available for most platforms, so you are best off building from source using standard GNU "make".
To install matrix2png from a binary, copy the appropriate compressed file onto your system and decompress it with 'gzip -dc matrix2png-i86pc-static.tar.gz | tar -x' or the equivalent. You may need to do a 'chmod u+x matrix2png' to make the file executable. You should then run a quick './matrix2png' and see if you get a usage line. If not, make sure you have the right binary for your system. Once you have it working, you can put the matrix2png binary in your path and use it as you would any other program.
